WBCS Exam

West Bengal Civil Service (WBCS) exam is one of the most prestigious and challenging exam in West Bengal. WBCS is organized by West Bengal Public Service Commission (WBPSC) every year. This exam is conducted in three phases, Preliminary, Mains and Personal Interview. According to the last 5 year’s statistics, approximately 1 lakh students appear in the preliminary exam every year and only around 11 thousand candidates get selected for the Mains exam. After that according to the available vacancies, candidates are selected for the personal interview process.

WBPSC announces recruitment notification in four categories such as A, B, C and D every year for the recruitment of eligible candidates in various departments. The aspirants have to clear three stages of WBCS to achieve their dream job profile. The eligibility criteria for different categories are given below.

Eligibility

• The candidate has to be an Indian citizen.
• The candidate must have fluency in Bengali. (Reading, Writing and Speaking).
• The candidate should necessarily meet the criteria of good health, character  and acceptability in Government jobs.
• WBCS Age Limit :

Group A and C – 21 to 36years (As on January 1 of the specific year)

Group B – 20 to 36 years (As on January 1 of the specific year)

Group D – 21 to 39 years (As on January 1 of the specific year)

• As an age proof only ‌Madhyamik‌ ‌or‌ ‌equivalent‌ ‌certificate, will be considered.
• Candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline.

Important Dates

WBCS preliminary exam generally take place in the month of January or February. Due to pandemic, preliminary exam of WBCS 2021 has been rescheduled to 22nd August 2021.
